Jul132007Error in First Printing of Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual
There was a printer error in the first copies of Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual. 2 pages are missing (actually they were replaced with two pages from another book!) You can download a PDF version of the 2 pages here.

Also, I think on page 45 when you refer to page 39 in the first paragraph, you may actually mean page 42. Read that entire section again and I think the fact that CosmoFarmer.com is created several times as an example and the Phase 1, Phase 2, etc. lead to confusion. Again, I think the reader should be instructed to unzip the files to the folder created in the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\CosmoFarmer 2.0\Chapter01 folder or whatever folder you have selected as the root folder.
Thanks,

Ron,
Phase 1 is just about setting up your working environment–setting important preferences and your workspace. That part isn’t specific to the CosmoFarmer site–it’s more a general setup procedure for Dreamweaver.
You don’t need to create a CosmoFarmer folder to get started. The tutorials are set up so that a reader can just download the tutorial files to whatever location they wish on their computer–the desktop or My Documents, for example. Setting up a site is an important first step, and each tutorial will require you to define a new site, with a new local root folder. For example in the first tutorial, the site is named Tutorial 1 and the local root folder is the Chapter01 folder.
You’re absolutely right about the mistake on page 45–it should point to Phase 2 on page 42. Thanks for pointing that error out. I’ll make sure we post an Errata on the O’Reilly Web site, and update this in future printings of the book.

Dear Dave,
I have a copy of the first edition of your Dreamweaver CS3 book.
But strangely enough, I am facing a different problem than the one you described above.
Actually, page 202 is not missing, but pages 293 and 294 have been replaced by pages 201 and 202 (which are therefore printed twice).
As you already provided page 294 in your PDF, only page 293 is missing now.
Can you please provide this page as well?
Your book is so excellent, I wouldn’t like to miss a single line!
Thanks,
Philippe

I don’t understand Chapter 1 of your new book DW CS3?
Could you explain the Phase 1, Phase 2, etc. It does not make sense to me? Phase 1 seems to just be setting preferences and creating a site CosmoFarmer 2. Phase 2 asks to create a new site “Tutorial 1″ - don’t follow the logic here - Then step 7 asks to select the files that have been downloaded “Chapter01 folder located inside the MM_DWCS3 folder you downloaded earlier. It seems like these files should be in the CosmoFarmer folder created earlier to have a logical linking of the files. Maybe I missed something earlier?
Seems like you would be instructed to unzip the files into the CosmoFarmer 2.0 folder, but then in Phase 3 you are asked to create about.html and place in the Chapter01 folder.
Should these files be in the Webroot folder “C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\CosmoFarmer 2.0\Chapter01″ folder???
Any help would be appreciated, THANKS!
