Dreamweaver 8: The Missing Manual was the fifth best selling computer book on Amazon for 2006! Thanks to everyone who bought my book!

Instructions are very clearly written throughout the book.
The “Live Data” button locks up DW8 even after the fault referred to in “Note” is corrected. Any suggestions for a fix?

further to my earlier comment, an error message displays the following relevant info:
“The handle is in the wrong state for the requested operation”.
Could this be a Windows error?

Hi Klaus,

I’ve never encountered that error before. You can find a list of Live Data View errors and their solutions on Adobe’s site: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?event=search&mode=simple&search_text=live+data+view&product=SG_DREAMWEAVER_1_1

After a search on Google, it seems that the error you’re getting is related to Windows and IIS. You might try the tutorials using PHP. You can download them from this web site at: http://www.sawmac.com/missing/dw8/php/index.php

I’ve found both Dreamweaver 8: The Missing Manual and CSS: the Missing Manual invaluable as I get ready to redevelop our website using DW8 on an Intel-powered iMac. I have hit one problem with the downloaded PHP tutorials though. I’ve followed all the instructions in PHP Tutorial 1, including loading a text file with SQL commands in it on phpMyAdmin, which showed clearly that the database nationalEx had 4 tables. When I follow the instructions on page 1 of PHP Tutorial 2 and try to create a recordset, entering rsProducts in the name field and connNationalEx in the connection field, the dialogue box refreshes itself and the Table field shows ‘no table found’. Is this a problem you have come across before? Am I doing something obviously wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Eating lunch has obviously had a beneficial effect on my brain. I came back to my office and remembered that I hadn’t switched off Personal Web Sharing in the Sharing Folder in System Preferences. I did so and I’ve been able to choose a table from the database. It’s often the little things that trip us up. Sorry to have bothered you!
