Sep72006Slashdot Review of CSS:TMM
Slashdot.org just posted a review of CSS: The Missing Manual. Here’s what they had to say…
the author does a commendable job of clearly explaining all of the essential topics that the typical developer would need to understand in order to begin developing a robust Web site based on HTML and CSS, or reworking an existing site that is in desperate need of an overhaul. The clear explanations and bite-sized examples demonstrate that David Sawyer McFarland is not only an experienced Web developer, but likely has spent considerable time explaining to others how to do the same — as a writer, trainer, and instructor.

A clear, concise guide to CSS. Very well written. It cleared up a lot of confusion for me regarding both XHTML and CSS. I recommmend this book for anyone who wants to learn CSS. I also recommend it for anyone who has already dabbled in CSS but wants to know more.
Clear examples, clear explanations. This book will sit next to my computer for a long time.

I have been putting off getting into CSS for several years. I know, I’m an idiot, but like tables have always worked before. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
However, I have started using CSS just a little and I see the definite advantages.
Since your interview on TWIT.TV I have decided to buy the book and give it a run.
When it arrives this week I will get into it and start working it…and will be back here to do an update.
It sounds great I hope it is, many of the other books are too technical.
Thanks!

Hi Ron,
glad you liked the interview on TWIT. I think you’ll find (once you get the hang of it) that CSS layout is WAY EASIER than tables. Hope you like the book and thanks for buying it.

Hey Dave,
You are a sick sick man… in a good way of coarse. It’s really funny because the reason why i found your book was that i felt like most of the other texts i had simply “lacked” a complete picture. I remember thinking, i wish someone wrote a book about everything that was missing in the other books or at least help me link them all together lol. Anywhos, your book has done just that for me and is truly a great reference that i will go back to often. Please check out the United Way Website that my company just built. I would love to hear any critique or suggestions.
thanks!

Thank You… Just what I was looking for. I wish I had found this book before I suffered through a web site last summer… built in css. At the time I was a rooke.
I had other books which over complicated the subject of css.
Your book hit the mark…the image and gallery tutorial with the captions was great, and the different ways to code and apply styles still has me gobbling up your text.
Thanks again for the book.
Yours Brian J Mason
