Aug292006FREE Chapter CSS: The Missing Manual
My publisher has graciously posted the first chapter of my book online, free for download. The chapter, “Rethinking HTML for CSS” provides helpful advice on how to write HTML that works well with CSS. It’s really just a tease, however, because the REALLY cool stuff like building CSS-driven layouts, interactive navigation bars, and formatting really stylish text comes in the later chapters.

Kerim,
Yes, the free chapter on the O’Reilly web site doesn’t have a tutorial. However, the rest of the book has 15 separate tutorials (over 100 pages worth) that cover everything from basic CSS to advanced CSS concepts and page layout.

David,
I’m about 2/3 of the way through the book already, and I’m loving it. I just took a look at a style for the Sage RSS reader extension to Firefox, and I was actually able to _fully_ understand it and even modify a couple of things I didn’t quite like.
I saw the Slashdot review, checked out the free chapter and bought the book the same night even though I had to go a bit out of my way to find it in stock!

Dave, great book so far.
What I am missing is more information on PostgreSQL 8.1.4, Apache 2.2.2, PHP 5.1.4, Smarty Template Engine (.tpl files), integration of these on a Centos 4.3.x Server. Examples of advanced form handling and dynamic data with advanced validation in this environment would be great. Even some infor on PEAR perhaps?
Perhaps enough topics for a new book???
Best,
Emile
